Arvid Liljelund
Emanuel Arvid Liljelund (1844–1899) was a renowned Finnish painter known for his depictions of peasant life and landscapes. Trained at prestigious institutions in Finland and Germany, Liljelund exhibited his work from 1870 onwards. He also served as a teacher at various art schools.
Liljelund's paintings, celebrated for their ethnographic accuracy, captured the essence of rural Finland, often portraying traditional interiors and people adorned in folk costumes. His frequent trips along the Swedish-speaking coast and other regions of Finland inspired a rich body of work, including stunning landscapes of his hometown, Uusikaupunki. Even a century ago, his art found widespread appreciation, with many of his works being reproduced as coloured postcards.
