Tar Burners in Kainuu
The production of tar was a significant industry in Finland during the late 1800s. The process involved the extraction of tar from wood, particularly from pine trees. The resinous wood of pine was well-suited for the extraction of tar.
Tar had several important applications, especially in maritime activities. It was a key component in the preservation of wood ships. Tar was also used in construction, as part of the roofing process and as a sealant.
