Viipuri Castle and Harbour

Viipuri Castle and Harbour

Built by the Swedes during the Middle Ages, Viipuri (Vyborg) Castle was the first line of defense against the Russians. The entire region was ceded to Russia at the end of World War II.

Viipuri harbour was an historically important transportation and military hub due to its strategic location on the Gulf of Finland.
