Siikaniemi Port in Viipuri

Siikaniemi Port in Viipuri

Siikaniemi is one of the oldest Finnish districts in Viipuri (Vyborg), a former Finnish municipality in what is now Russia. The area was settled as early as the mid-16th century. The port is west of the city’s main harbour area.

It’s location on the Gulf of Finland made it less susceptible to ice, allowing for year-round maritime activity, which was crucial for trade in the Baltic region. The port handled a variety of goods, including timber, grains, textiles and other products, serving as an important hub of trade and exchange in the region.
