Viipuri Market and Round Tower
Viipuri, once a significant city in the late 1800s, now known as Vyborg and situated in present-day Russia near the Finnish border, boasted a rich history evident in its architecture and landmarks. Among these landmarks were the round tower (pyöreä torni) and market square, bustling hubs of activity that represented the city's commercial prowess.
The round tower, constructed as part of Viipuri's fortifications in the 16th century, served various purposes throughout its existence. Initially a defensive structure, it evolved over time, fulfilling roles in storage and administration, and ultimately becoming a symbol of the city's heritage. Adjacent to the tower, the market square buzzed with life as merchants from near and far sold their wares, infusing the air with the vibrant sounds and scents of trade.
