S/S Aavasaksa in Kotka
Kotka’s harbour was a key location for both trade and travel in the late 1800s. The S/S Aavasaksa, a steamship connecting Finnish coastal cities with St. Petersburg, is docked at the pier, ready for its journey. Behind the harbour, timber yards dominate the landscape, a reminder of Kotka’s important role in the timber trade. The harbour’s layout of piers, boats, and warehouses reflects the bustling activity that shaped Kotka’s development as an industrial port town during this period.
