Bishop Alopaeus: Apostle to the Deaf
A bishop in the Finnish Lutheran church, Carl Henrik Alopaeus was known as the ‘Apostle to the Deaf’ because of his work in deaf education. He became the director of the country’s first school for the deaf in Turku.
The author of several books on deaf education, Alopaeus also contributed to the publication of the first Finnish book in Braille.
