Ladies and Bicycles
Bicycles played a significant role in promoting greater mobility and independence, particularly for women. The bicycle allowed women to travel independently, which was a liberating experience in a society where traditional gender roles were prevalent.
By the late 1800s, bicycles were being used for practical purposes, such as commuting and transportation. They provided a more efficient and affordable means of getting around town compared to horse-drawn carriages.
The names of two of the women in the photograph are Aina Ekholm and Agnes Hagman but we don’t know who is who in the image.
