Elias Lönnrot Statue Unveiling in Helsinki, 1902

Elias Lönnrot, a prominent Finnish physician, philologist, and poet, is best remembered for compiling the Kalevala, Finland's national epic. His efforts in documenting Finnish folk poetry significantly contributed to Finland's cultural heritage and identity. The statue of Lönnrot, created by sculptor Emil Wikström, was unveiled in 1902 and is located in the Kamppi district of Helsinki. This tribute highlights his deep influence on Finnish literature and the preservation of national folklore.
