Per Brahe Statue in Turku
Per Brahe, a Swedish noble and Governor-General of Finland, played a significant role in the country’s development during the 17th century. Known for establishing several educational institutions and administrative reforms, Brahe’s influence is remembered fondly in Finland, and his efforts contributed to the growth and modernization of Finnish society. In recognition of his contributions, a statue by sculptor Walter Runeberg was unveiled in Turku in 1888. This monument stands as a reminder of the impact Brahe had on the city and the country at large, from educational reforms to city planning.
