Johan Ludvig Runeberg and Family

Known as a national poet of Finland, Runeberg was a Finnish priest who wrote the lyrics to Maamme (Our Land), Finland’s unofficial national anthem. Runeberg’s poems often depicted rural life in Finland.
In the photo (from the left sitting on the stairs): J.L. Runeberg, Fredrika Charlotta Runeberg (his wife), Johanna Karolina Tengström, Lovisa Natalia Castrén and Eufrosyne Sofie Nordström. Standing behind are Anna Sofia Kellgren and Johan Vilhelm Runeberg. The children in front are Johanna Tikkanen, Fredrik Carl Runeberg and Johan Jakob Tikkanen. Behind Johan is Robert Castrén.
This photograph is a 1913 reproduction by Daniel Nyblin of an original photo taken in 1863 by Alfred Ottelin.
