Elias Lönnrot and Family
A portrait of Elias Lönnrot and his family in 1864. Lönnrot traveled around Finland, Karelia (now Russian Karelia), the Kola Peninsula and the nearby Baltic countries, collecting oral stories/poetry, which he compiled into the Finnish national epic, Kalevala.
