Turku Orthodox Church and Hotel Phoenix
The Orthodox Church of the Holy Martyr Empress Alexandra, located in Turku, Finland, was designed by the renowned architect Carl Ludvig Engel and constructed between 1839 and 1845. This neoclassical church catered to the Orthodox Christian community during a period when Finland was part of the Russian Empire. Its striking dome and columns reflect Engel's mastery of neoclassical design, which influenced many prominent buildings across Finland.
Adjacent to the church once stood the Hotel Phoenix, an elegant structure that played a central role in the city’s life during the 19th century. The hotel served as a hub for travelers and social gatherings until its demolition in 1958, making way for urban development in modern Turku.
