A Gathering of Friends in the Outdoors
In late 19th century Finland, life was challenging for many, but those with financial means experienced a significantly different reality. The wealthy had access to luxuries and comforts that were out of reach for the majority of the population. While the average person laboured in fields or factories, the affluent enjoyed a lifestyle marked by social gatherings, leisurely activities, and access to education and culture. They lived in well-constructed homes, often in urban areas, and had the means to travel and experience the growing cultural and social developments of the time.
The wealthy could afford better healthcare, fine clothing, and the latest technological advancements, such as early forms of transportation and communication. They often participated in social events and gatherings, where they could network and enjoy the company of others in similar social standing. Despite the broader economic and social challenges of the time, wealthier Finns were able to maintain a lifestyle that shielded them from many of the hardships faced by others.
