Snowy Streets of Hämeenlinna
In the late 1800s, Hämeenlinna was already one of Finland’s notable inland towns. Hallituskatu (Government Street) ran through its centre, lined with low wooden buildings, storefronts, and civic institutions. With Lake Vanajavesi nearby and the castle just beyond the town core, Hämeenlinna was both a local hub and a link to the wider region.
The street is deep in snow, with narrow, packed tracks worn by sleighs and foot traffic. It’s a reminder of how people adapted to seasonal conditions—by continuing daily routines regardless of the weather. This is our final winter post for now - next week we’ll be turning toward spring and all the changes it brings.
