Exhibition Building of the Finnish General Exhibition of 1876
The General Exhibition of Finland took place in Helsinki from May 1 to June 10, 1876. Its aim was to bring together and present a variety of Finnish products in the areas of art, industry, agriculture, handicraft and education. Private citizens, associations, companies and public institutions were invited to participate in the event and it was free to attend.
The 1876 exhibition, the first of its kind in Finland, generated much excitement across the country. Over the next several weeks, we will re-visit the exhibition through photos of the event and information gathered by Kaisa Kyläkoski in the summer of 2022 in a series of blog posts on her website Sukututkijan Loppuvuosi. The posts are in Finnish but Google Translate is quite good these days and the posts are a valuable source of information not only about the Exhibition but also Finnish history in general. I highly recommend! Start with this post This Summer We Time Travel to 1876 for more information about the exhibition.
