Winter in Hietaniemi
Hietaniemi Cemetery, one of Helsinki’s most historically significant burial grounds, is blanketed in deep snow. The cemetery, established in the early 19th century, serves as the final resting place for many notable figures in Finnish history. A small chapel stands in the distance, its simple architecture contrasting with the heavy snowdrifts covering the landscape. The thick snow along the road and on the stone fences highlights the challenges of winter travel in the era before modern snow removal.
