Kaivohuone- Its Original Design
Built in 1838, Kaivohuone was one of the first restaurants in Helsinki. Designed by German architect Carl Ludvig Engel, it attracted vacationing Russian nobles who were not allowed to travel abroad. They came to visit the spa at Kaivopuisto, the park in which Kaivohuone is located.
Kaivohuone was also host to circus and cabaret shows.
