Turku Castle
Turku Castle, also known as Turun linna in Finnish, is an historic fortress located in Turku, Finland. It is one of the most prominent medieval castles in Finland and serves as a significant cultural and historical landmark in the country.
Turku Castle has a rich history dating back to the late 13th century. It was founded in the 1280s by Swedish King Magnus Ladulås as a defensive fortress to protect the newly established city of Turku and to exert control over the southwestern part of Finland. It was the administrative center and residence of the Swedish rulers and later the Finnish governors during the Swedish and Russian periods.
Currently, Turku Castle houses the Turku Castle Museum, which is a part of the Finnish National Museum.
